10 Thing To Do Before You Leave Your Driveway

Being safe in the car starts before you leave the home. Here are the top 10 things you should do before you leave your driveway, a safe driving checklist compiled by Comedy Driving defensive driving school. Create safe driving practices by following this list.

1. Check your tire pressure levels – Regulate each tire's PSI to the recommended amount, as needed. This will give your vehicle better traction.

2. Put on your seat belt - In the occurrence of an accident, this will keep you from being thrown into or through your windshield.

3. Require your passengers to buckle up - Seatbelt's keep occupants from being tossed around inside the car. Texas law also requires that passengers must be strapped to the seatbelt or the driver/passenger could be issued a ticket.

4. Adjust your seat - You should be positioned in a way that maximizes your visibility and ability to control your vehicle.

5. Adjust your mirrors - You should adjust your mirrors so that you minimize blind spots and maximize all-around visibility.

6. Don't drive if you're under the influence - Alcohol and drugs impair your reaction time and motor functions which can result in vehicle collisions.

7. Don't drive if you're tired - Falling asleep at the wheel is not only dangerous for you, but it's also dangerous for the other drivers on the road around you.

8. Put any distracting items away - For example: Put cell phones in out-of-reach and/or out-of-sight places such as the glove box or backseat.

9. Keep up with basic maintenance on your vehicle – Maintenance such as oil changes, brake repair, new tires, and changing out non-functioning turn signals and headlights is important.

10. Plan your trip ahead of time - Driving in a hurry or being uncertain of where you're going can make you impatient and scared which can result in an accident.
