Dolen, located along Farm to Market Road 787 between the Sam Houston National Forest and the Big Thicket National Preserve, is a neighbor to Cleveland (a short drive southwest of Dolen) and Livingston (just north of Dolen). Being between a national forest and a national preserve puts Dolen in a heavily rural area. While it's not so rural that you'll run into the Geico Cavemen or hear about sightings of Bigfoot, you can still run into other dangers that live in the wild. While Dolen isn't known for having the same abundant wild hog problem that other rural areas of Texas have, there are still plenty of other types of wildlife like deer and cows that could find their way onto the roadway and cause you to get into an accident.
