The beginning of Cut and Shoot involves a great deal of animosity involving a large disagreement of beliefs that almost led to a violent end. A phrase that turned up during the altercation by a young boy who was scared by the situation was, "I'm going to cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes in a minute!" During one of the trials about the situation, the Judge asked a witness where it had happened, but he had not been at the scrape and didn't know what to call the community since it did not have a name so his reply was, "I suppose you would call it the place where they had the cutting and shooting scrape." From occasions like those, referring to the area in such a way became commonplace and eventually, in 1969, an election was held to incorporate the area as the Town of Cut and Shoot.
