While driving in Texas, you may have seen some vehicles with small television screens. In Texas, it's within the limits of the law for a motor vehicle to be equipped with video equipment as long as it meets certain criteria. It's legal in Texas for a vehicle to have video equipment but only so long as the video display is not visible from the driver's seat.

However, this does not pertain to equipment exclusively to receive information for commercial, safety, or law enforcement purposes (as long as the equipment's installation is state approved.) The equipment in a remote transmission truck and equipment used for monitoring a vehicle’s natural gas, water, or electric utility are also exempt. Also excluded are monitoring devices that produce an electronic display and devices used exclusively in conjunction with a mobile navigation system already installed in the vehicle.

Driving may seem boring and people like to be entertained. However, there is nothing entertaining about becoming a victim of a crash because you were watching a video instead of the roadway.
