Operating a vehicle that's in anything less than good working condition in Texas puts you, as well as others, in danger.  Thankfully there are laws in place to keep people from driving when their vehicles aren't in proper driving condition. 

A person commits a misdemeanor offense if he or she operates, moves, or as an owner, knowingly permits another person to operate or move a vehicle that is not equipped in compliance with Texas vehicle and equipment standards or equipped in a manner prohibited by Texas law.  Also, a person cannot sell an item of vehicle equipment unless it bears the manufacturer's trademark or brand name.
