Texas has a point system for people who commit traffic violations. This point system is not a sport or a contest. People shouldn't hear the term, “point system” and be anxious to go commit traffic violations. This isn't a video game and you're not trying to get the high score. It's more like golf. The lower the number, the better. It's not as boring as golf, though. I'm not sure anything can be as boring as golf... except maybe the Twilight series.
What was I talking about? Oh, yeah, the Texas Point System. When you acquire more than six points on your record, you have to start paying annual fines for three years. For every point over six, the fines get bigger. That's money you have to pay to the government every year that could have gone towards a new computer or big screen TV or just havin' tons of fun. It's also a constant reminder that you did something pointless and unimportant one, two, or three years ago.
The better idea? Try to be a good driver. Sure, you're gonna make an accidental mistake on occasion, but it happens a lot less if you're actually trying to be a good driver. When it does happen, most courts in Texas will let you take a Defensive Driving course such as the one provided by Comedy Driving to remove the incident from your record. No harm, no foul. Drive safe, drive careful and on the rare occasion that you do get a ticket for a minor traffic violation, ask the court about defensive driving to keep it off your record.
