Texas Points for Certian Convictions

The texas driver's license of a person accumulates points under the Texas Driver Responsibility Program as of the date the Department of Public Safety records a conviction of the person. If you're the type of person to get a lot of traffic tickets then should hope your court dates are as spaced out as much as possible so points don't accrue points on your record quickly to avoid having to pay a large annual surcharge.

For each conviction arising out of a separate transaction, the Texas DPS shall assign points to a person's license as follows: two points for a moving violation of the traffic law of Texas and three points for a moving violation of the traffic law of Texas, another state, or a political subdivision of a state that resulted in an accident. The DPS by rule shall designate the offenses that constitute a moving violation of the traffic law under the Driver Responsibility Program. Remember that the Driver Responsibility Program is like golf: A lower score is a better score. Accumulating a lot of points shows how bad you are at golf and at driving.

The Texas DPS may not assign points to a person's driver's license if the offense of which the person was convicted is the offense of speeding and the person was at the time of the offense driving less than 10 percent faster than the posted speed limit, but only if the offense was not committed in a school zone. The DPS also may not assign points to a person's license if the offense committed by the person was adjudicated under the Code of Criminal Procedure. A person can still be given a citation for such an offense and be required to pay a fine suitable to the offense, but points will not be assigned to the person's record. If you only feel like paying a little bit of money then only speed a little bit, but if really want to contribute then haul all-out.
