How to Turn while using Defensive Driving

There are very specific and detailed laws pertaining to stopping and turning in Texas. These laws are so specific and detailed that they are even broken down to the direction in which the Texas driver is turning.

According to the Texas Transportation Code, to make a right turn at an intersection, a driver must approach and the turn as closely as possible to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.

Using Defensive Driving to turn left at a Texas intersection is even more detailed: To make a left turn at an intersection, a driver must approach the intersection in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to a vehicle moving in the direction of the vehicle and, after entering the intersection, turn left, leaving the intersection so as to arrive in a lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of the vehicle on the roadway being entered.

On a street or roadway designated for two-way traffic, the driver who is turning left must turn into the nearest part of the intersection to the left of the center of the intersection. To turn left, a driver approaching an intersection on a roadway for one-way traffic and of which signs are posted must turn as closely as possible to the left-hand curb or edge of the roadway.
