Dealing with Texting While Driving

A popular distraction for Texas drivers in this day and age is texting. People receive, type, and send text messages while they're driving in Texas. While one step to driving safe is not texting while driving yourself, you can also do things to deal with other people who are texting while driving.

First of all, if you're in the car with someone who is texting while driving in Texas, you should get him or her to stop texting immediately. Offer to text the message for them if that gets them to stop doing it themselves. Discourage everyone you know from texting while driving. If you're about to ride with someone who texts while driving and refuses to stop then it's a better and safer idea to not ride with them at all. If texting is more important to them then paying attention to the road you could offer to drive instead of them.

If you're driving and see someone in another car texting while driving then you should do what you can to get away from him or her. You can get in another lane, slow down to get further behind them, or speed up to get further ahead of them. If you're going to speed up to get further ahead of them then be sure you don't exceed the speed limit while doing so. Whether you move ahead or fall behind, be sure to get far enough away that you can safely react to anything the texting driver does. Watch out for the texter because they are not watching out for you.
