Catching Criminals
Sometimes, when people are pulled over for a traffic violation, they ask the officer, "Why don't you go catch the REAL criminals?" If you're pulled over for a traffic violation then you've broken a law and that makes you a REAL criminal. However, beyond traffic violations, police often catch more dangerous and/or extreme criminals due to traffic violations. Here are a few of them...
- Timothy McVeigh, the man who killed 168 people and injured 450 people in the Oklahoma City Bombing, was arrested during a traffic stop because he had no plates on his vehicle.
- Michael Wagner was stopped near Council Bluffs, Iowa, for not wearing a seat belt. Michael Wagner was found to have flight training manuals, Arabic documents, bulletproof vests and night-vision goggles, a night-vision scope for a rifle, a telescope, and a 9mm semiautomatic pistol.
- Sasan Ghazal was stopped in Matthews N.C. for suspicion of DUI. He was found to have a bomb in his vehicle.
- A traffic stop due to a broken taillight foiled the abduction of two people.
- A robbery suspect was arrested after running a red light in Washington, D.C. He also failed the sobriety test.
- A traffic stop for speeding in Colorado yielded a stabbing victim.
- A traffic stop for no taillights in Florida yielded thousands in cocaine.
- In Greenbelt, Maryland, resulted in the arrest of a suspect in a 1993 murder.
- In Ohio, a traffic stop yielded two bombs.
- A traffic stop in southern Philadelphia yielded 1.6 million dollars in Heroin.
When performing routine traffic stops, police officers do catch the real criminals. Whether you're just speeding or violently conspiring against what you believe to be a corrupt government, you're one of those criminals.
