Houston Texas Transtar

Houston TranStar is the greater Houston Transportation and Emergency Management Center.  On the Houston TranStar website, it is described as, “a partnership of four government agencies that are responsible for providing Transportation Management and Emergency Management services to the Greater Houston Region.”  The four government agencies are The Texas Department of Transportation, Harris County, The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, and The City of Houston.

The Houston TranStar partnership has been a leader in designing and implementing transportation management plans to get citizens of the Houston area where they want to go.  Its partnership has handled transportation issues in the best and most efficient way possible: through technological and inter-agency coordination.  In Houston, keeping traffic moving safely and efficiently requires constant maintenance, but that's only part of the equation.  If you have ever driven in Houston then you already know that.  The abundance of construction is obvious.  Small problems like a stalled car can cause major traffic congestion.  Fortunately, Houston TranStar has the tools, expertise, and coordinated power necessary to keep such problems to a minimum.

The benefit of having multiple agencies under one roof for pooling information and resources gives Houston TranStar partners an advantage over other agencies who work alone. Because of joint transportation projects, combined emergency response efforts and general day-to-day cooperative operations, TranStar enjoys a worldwide reputation for innovation and efficient use of resources.

Houston TranStar was the first center in the nation to combine Transportation and Emergency Management centers, and the first to bring four agencies together under one roof. Houston TranStar’s web site is both nationally and locally recognized for the breadth of information it offers the general public. Subscribers are able to receive personalized travel time updates and incident warnings, as well as providing up-to-the-minute traffic and weather information.
